The Gerrie Collins Endowed Piano Scholarship will honor Dr. Collins’ distinguished career as a piano professor at Mississippi State University. To become a self-sufficient, perpetual award, the corpus must reach at least $25,000, and our goal is to meet or exceed that threshold by the October 15th memorial service (which is also Gerrie’s birthday) so that the first recipient can be named as soon as possible.
The university’s music department has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years, opening a brand new, $21 million facility last November and continuing a drive (coincidentally called the the 88 Keys Program) to become an all-Steinway school. In fact, MSU Director of Development, Trish Cunetto, confirmed that one of the first donations to the Steinway initiative was made several years ago in Dr. Collins’ name by one of her former students.
The endowed scholarship now offers a way to directly honor Gerrie’s legacies as a teacher and help new generations of students at the same time.
