Scholarship Fund Tops $20,000 Mark

On the eve of the memorial service that will celebrate the life and career of Gerrie Collins, the piano scholarship corpus now stands at a whopping $21,000. When I set the goal of October 15th to meet the minimum endowment requirement of $25,000, I did so without any real expectation that it would or could be met. I just thought it was a great mark to shoot for in timing with Gerrie’s birthday and the commemoration of her remarkable life.

I’m beyond grateful that the generous donations pouring in have actually put the goal within possible reach considering that some folks attending the service who’ve not previously contributed may elect to do so in concert with the event. Either way, I can’t overstate my thanks to all of you for your support.

For those attending the service, I will see you tomorrow.

For those who can’t make it, I expect to upload an edited version of the service by November, certainly in time for a true expression of Thanksgiving.

Want to Honor Dr. Collins?

To support the Gerrie Collins Endowed Piano Scholarship, visit the Mississippi State University Foundation giving page, and use the search box to quickly locate the fund. Alternatively, you can simply print and fill out the pdf form, specifying the fund name on the appropriate lines, and mail it to the Foundation with a check, which will avoid imposition of credit card fees on the fund.

Though we reached the minimum threshold for endowed status on March 4, 2024 (the first anniversary of Gerrie’s death), we welcome additional contributions in order to maximize the size and/or number of scholarships the fund can ultimately support. With education costs continually rising, the amount of assistance many students require–now and into the future–can’t be overestimated.

Thank you so much for your help!
